Security and data protection

Compliance: supported frameworks and requirements

Our practices are built on recognized information security and data protection frameworks, to help you meet the requirements of the most regulated industries.

  • ISO 27001Information security

International standard governing information security management: policies, risk management and continuous improvement.

  • SOC 2Controls and trust

Independent audit framework covering the security, availability and confidentiality controls applied to services.

  • HIPAAHealth data

Health information protection requirements, for organizations that process patient data.

  • PCI DSSPayment data

Payment card industry security standard, which protects cardholder data.

These frameworks guide our practices, and we support your own compliance requirements. Available attestations and their scope are provided on request.

Sovereignty

Law 25 compliance and data sovereignty

Choosing a data centre also means choosing which laws protect your information. For a Quebec business, Law 25 (An Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information) and, federally, PIPEDA govern how personal information is entrusted to third parties.

Data communicated outside Quebec

Law 25 requires a privacy impact assessment before personal information is communicated outside Quebec. The assessment considers, among other things, the sensitivity of the information, the protection measures and the legal framework that applies where it will be communicated.

Exposure to foreign laws

Under PIPEDA, you remain accountable for information entrusted to a provider. If that provider is subject to a foreign law such as the US CLOUD Act, foreign authorities may, in some cases, demand access to your data, even when it is hosted in Canada. A Canadian provider operating in Quebec avoids this exposure.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer colocation?

Yes. You install your own equipment in our racks, with redundant power, connectivity and secure 24/7 access. You can also combine colocation with hosting managed by HDCE.

Where is your data centre?

In Montreal, Quebec. Our data centres are in Quebec and your data stays in Canada. For security reasons, visits are by appointment.

Can I visit your facilities?

Yes, by appointment. Use the “Schedule a visit or a consultation” button: we will suggest a time and explain the access procedure.

Is HDCE ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certified?

Our practices are built on these frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS), and we support your own compliance requirements. Available attestations and their scope are provided on request.

Does hosting in Quebec help with Law 25?

Yes, it simplifies your process: when your data stays in Quebec, the assessment required before communicating information outside Quebec does not apply to that hosting. Your other obligations remain. This content is for information only and does not constitute legal advice.
