The technology behind HDCE Sentinel

What is an RMM?

An RMM — Remote Monitoring and Management — is the platform that connects each of your devices to our service centre. A lightweight agent, installed on every workstation and server, continuously reports its status and lets us act remotely, without travelling and without interrupting your employees.

The RMM is what lets us automate:

  • InventoryHardware, software, licences and warranties, always up to date.
  • MonitoringAvailability, performance, disk space, services and backups, 24/7.
  • PatchesWindows, macOS and third-party software updates, deployed in waves.
  • Scripts and automationPowerShell and Bash to clean up, configure and repair, at the right time.
  • Remote accessSecure remote control by our technicians, with the user’s consent.
  • Alerts and thresholdsAlerts that trigger our AI agents and technicians.
  • Lightweight agent · Windows, macOS, Linux
  • Encrypted communication
  • Runs outside business hours
  • Audit log of every action
Our EDR

Why ESET Inspect?

ESET Inspect is an EDR — Endpoint Detection and Response: it detects, analyzes and responds to threats directly on your workstations and servers, where a traditional antivirus is mostly limited to known threats.

We chose it because it goes further in automation and gives us precise control over that automation, group by group, across our clients’ entire device fleet.

  • More automationWorkstation isolation, process termination, file blocking and response scripts: ESET Inspect acts as soon as a threat is detected.
  • Precise control over the fleetGroup by group, we decide what is automatic and what requires a technician’s approval.
  • Behavioural detectionBeyond signatures, ESET Inspect analyzes processes, scripts and connections, mapped to MITRE ATT&CK.
  • Connected to our RMM and AI agentsEvery detection feeds our remediation workflows, our verifications and your reports.

Example of ESET Inspect response rules configured by HDCE: workstations, malicious behaviour, isolate and stop the process automatically; mobile laptops, ransomware, immediate isolation; critical servers, suspicious activity, technician approval required; executives, phishing, alert and block the link. Exclusions: accounting software and backup tools.

How it works

From the first signal to resolution, automatically and under control

Follow an event in real time: telemetry, ESET Inspect detection, AI investigation, containment, RMM action, verification, report, then follow-up by an HDCE technician.

  • Telemetry
  • Detection alert
  • AI decision
  • RMM action
  • Report and follow-up
  • Continuous monitoring

Workstation or server

Every managed device runs two lightweight agents: the RMM agent (remote management) and the ESET Inspect agent (security).

Continuous telemetry

Processes, connections, performance and logs flow in real time to ESET Inspect and the HDCE Sentinel console.

Detection

ESET Inspect spots malicious behaviour; the Sentinel AI engine spots health and performance anomalies.

AI-assisted investigation

The AI agent correlates signals, rebuilds the timeline and proposes a verdict or an action plan.

Containment or action plan

Based on your rules: immediate isolation of the workstation, or a remediation plan within an approved window.

RMM action

The RMM runs the remediation on the targeted workstations: script, patch, cleanup or rollback.

Verification

The result is checked automatically: threat removed, services running, performance restored.

Report

Timeline, actions and evidence are recorded in a clear, audit-ready report.

HDCE technician notified

An HDCE technician receives the summary, validates it and follows up with you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an EDR and an antivirus?

A traditional antivirus mainly focuses on known threats, identified by signatures. An EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) such as ESET Inspect continuously monitors the behaviour of workstations and servers (processes, scripts, connections), detects suspicious activity and can respond automatically, for example by isolating a workstation.

Why did HDCE choose ESET Inspect?

Because it goes further in automating the response, and it lets us set precisely, group by group, what is automatic and what requires approval from an HDCE technician. Every detection also feeds our RMM, our AI agents and your reports.

How much does HDCE Sentinel cost per workstation?

HDCE Sentinel costs $25 per workstation per month. Combined with ESET Inspect, the solution starts at $35 per workstation per month, depending on the ESET Inspect licence tier. Prices in Canadian dollars, taxes extra.

Is HDCE Sentinel a good fit for Quebec SMBs?

Yes. The service is designed for SMBs and organizations without a full-time security team: monitoring, maintenance and response are automated, and an HDCE technician follows up with you.
